“Know therefore today, and lay it to your heart, that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.” (Deuteronomy 4:39, ESV)
God is alive and well!
Every time we read the story…every time we witness a miraculous healing…every time a life is transformed by the presence of God…we can’t help but stand in awe of the power of God’s love for us.
And…at the same time, many of us are also bombarded by daily negativity and unbelief. We fight with circumstances that, at moments, seem out of our control. We, from time to time, argue with stubborn and broken bodies that refuse to be healed. It’s not always apparent that God truly is alive and working.
This is where the gift of hope finds its work – in the tension between the good and the not so good, between times of blessing and times of disappointment. I wish that I could say that every day will be filled with only the best outcomes; but that’s not true. Life is filled with both great joys and great grief, with tremendous exhilaration and exhausting sorrows.
At the end of any given day, I must choose. Will I believe, or will I recede into the shadows? Will I hope, or will I relinquish my freedom. Today, would you join with me, and let God stir your heart to hope…to believe that even if I feel lost, right now, that I will awake to new mercies.
God is alive and well…may our eyes see and our ears hear.
