Morning Meditation – Always There

“Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?” (Psalm 139:4-7, ESV)

If I take a moment to think about it, I am captivated by the fact that I cannot escape air. I cannot run from my need for it, nor can I stop my body’s compulsory drive to breathe it. Fortunately, breathing is not dependent upon how I feel about it! My need to breathe does not change whether I’m having a great day, or a bad one. Air is real; I require it. Therefore, I breathe.

The Spirit of Lord has a similar connection to me. God is always working…always moving…and always present. Whether I’m aware of Him or not, I cannot escape His presence. Whether life is great or not, He transcends all those issues. I love how the author of Psalm 139 describes this truth when he says, “If I ascend to heaven, you there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!” You cannot escape the leading of the Lord!

Let the Lord strengthen you. He is with you; through heaven or hell! Regardless of your sense of His presence, He is working in your midst. Take your eyes off of what’s not right, what’s not going as you expected, and place them on what He’s doing. The Word says, “all things are working out for your good!” So…keep walking, and fresh air will fill your lungs.

He daily loads us with His benefits!!! When I think I don’t have something someone else seems to be blessed with, I stop and remember that I have Him and that’s enough! I mean, He gives His Spirit AND we also have in our hands His precious Word. In and through both of those things, I can lay hold of His very person, my living Lord, the lover of my soul , the air I breathe and my daily benefit! 😌

Pastor – in times of personal struggle, where we wonder where He is? Thinking He has left us…or took a break….this truth is still truth – “Regardless of your sense of His presence, He is working in your midst”. Thank you – needed to hear that today!
