“Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest? …But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.”” (Isaiah 66:1-2, ESV)
I LOVE dogs. I bought one so that we could cuddle. But…my dog is stubborn! It’s her way or no way. Cuddling is always on her terms. Sometimes I think she’s more like a cat-dog. You know the kind…you call her name, and she just stares at you.
I don’t know if we’re much different than my Maggie. God calls our name, and we are not always so quick to respond. We can feel His leading down a particular path, and we’re not so sure we want to yield.
Humility is not our forte. We often presume our humility. It’s much easier to believe that we’re humble than full of ourselves. Seldom, if ever, do I hear of people lamenting over their pride or their lack of honor to the “Word of God.”
But for the Lord, humility is THE door through which He meets us. When our heart’s desire is simply to walk in whatever God places before us, that’s when the experience of His presence increases. When we fight with His Word, and long for other options, that’s when we live in frustration.
May there always be a whisper in our conscience: God is King, and life is best that way.
