Morning Meditation – God Has Nothing to Prove

“An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” (Matthew 12:39, ESV)

Desiring a miracle may be a good thing, but desiring the person behind the miracle is better.

It goes without saying, though, that Jesus does demonstrate supernatural power.  It’s clear from scripture that Christ, “went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the Devil.” (Acts 10:38) But, Jesus also points to the fact that the seeking of a sign could be problematic when it’s done without believing faith and devotion.  Such a mindset says, “I won’t believe unless you prove it to me;” and with that attitude, there is no opportunity for God to work.

This is the deal: God will not overrule your free will.  God freely gives out of His love, but He has nothing to prove to an unbelieving spirit.  In such an atmosphere, Jesus only recourse is to say, “My resurrection is enough!”

The resurrection is THE event of our faith.  It is the power of God that trumps all issues surrounding sin and death.  Jesus’ return from the grave is our guarantee that He reigns.  So, if Christ does not reign in our hearts, then why would God have to prove anything to us.  He already gave us the ultimate display of His love and power.

Today, let’s rejoice that Jesus reigns.  No matter how things may look, Jesus rose from the grave.  Therefore, we have already won.  When I accept His reign, when Jesus becomes personal to me, then I gain everything else.

Reading this late after work! I love what you said …desiring the one behind the miracle is way better than desiring the miracle! All Jesus proves to me over and over is His love for us! It’s the best “sign” this girl could ever want to see!
