Morning Meditation – Devotion

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” (Galatians 5:16-17, ESV)

I can’t get away from this thought: “I am the manifestation of my devotion.” I shared these words in my message yesterday at Zion’s River, and they continue to reverberate in my soul. The truth of them weigh on my mind. I can believe in all kinds of truths, but only the devotion of my heart will manifest in the reality of my life.

It may be a hard truth; but it is the truth nonetheless. Your flesh and spirit war with one another. They are fighting over the same territory. They are seeking one thing: the devotion of your heart’s passion. They both know that you will become what your heart loves most.

At the end of the day, we must decide what we’re about. If we do not choose, then some thing will choose for us. We are standing in the middle of a vast battlefield where forces are warring for our heart’s attention. By faith, we must choose what we will yield to.

Be strong and courageous, my friends. The “battle (already) belongs to the Lord.” All you have to do is fuel the right passions by your daily choices.

Awesome word Pastor!! Been chewing on this since Sunday…and also the part on our life story…whether we choose to believe in the story Papa God wrote about us and how that decision affects the life stories of those around us….WOWZERS!!!!

  2. Thank you for this great reminder!!
We do fight a spiritual battle every single day! It is waging war too for our soul. Christ never said though that this life would be easy, that is not at all what HE promised, but HE did promise to always be there with us. JESUS does provide the way out too!! JESUS will help us escape that temptation before it can be turned into a sin. It is in no way easy what we deal with, but it is indeed worth it! I can’t wait to see JESUS and to see all of my family too up there with HIM. This is the hope that we hold onto. This is what we look forward to, our future with HIM!
    Thank you pastor!

I missed Sunday, had to work but my daughter raved about how good your message was!!! ( thank God, I can listen to it on Zions River ap) Jesus tells us “where your treasure is, there is your heart”, if I don’t choose to spend daily time in the Word and talking and hearing from Him and I forsake that because I am ” busy” , I forget “what manner of man I am” and I manifest what I don’t want to be like, I’m not at my best! Choice is the key word in what you said of whether we walk in the Spirit or the flesh. The war of two natures….the struggle is real”
