“…even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.” (Galatians 2:13, ESV)
Even the Apostles were susceptible to its influence.
No one is immune from the religious spirit. It’s natural to us. It’s wired into our flesh. Religion tells me I can depend upon certain rules and traditions to predict outcomes. It almost gives us the illusion of being prophetic. It possesses a deceptive power that can overcome consciences of even the most powerful spirit-filled giants.
What makes it so incredibly deceptive? It’s the draw to succeed. It’s the need to win another’s approval. It’s our natural desire to control outcomes. We want a guarantee that if we employ certain spiritual/Biblical principles, that we’re going to get specific predictible results.
Of course, we’re not purposefully trying to manipulate situations. But, it takes deliberate effort to remain submitted to the Lord’s grace to get us through all things. Faith, then, is the only thing that will give God the room to work in our lives.
So, if Jesus knows the plan from the beginning, then only He can ensure that we’ll get to the end. Today…believe that God has you! Trust Him. All you have to do is follow. And if you’re following, your story will be fulfilled as He designed it.
