Morning Meditation – A Difficult Pill to Swallow

I heard these words, today, “He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him.” (John 1:11, ESV) It then hit me.  Wow, Jesus’ love was not good enough.  The people wanted a different answer!

Are we any different?

We have a very difficult time accepting that God’s love is THE answer…not for ourselves, of course, but for everyone else.  We would rather have justice.  We want others to feel our pain.  We want people to understand us, and come over to our way of thinking, or at the least, come to agree on the same truth.  But here’s the problem: truth without love is no truth at all.

Jesus was sent out of the Father’s love to reunite us all.  To forgive.  To release.  To serve.  That approach to life doesn’t make sense to our flesh.  We would rather see our enemies suffer first before being won to our side.  We see people as needing change before they can receive mercy.  We would even prioritize power and the miraculous rather than giving our lives selflessly for another’s benefit.  Love truly is a tough answer to bite.

Consider this today: only when we love, will we be healed…will we be truly free.
