“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.” (Ephesians 2:4-5, ESV)
Love is not love if it must be won. It’s given freely. It’s given without payment. It’s not dependent upon another’s level of maturity, their offense, nor the depth of their contrition. Love holds nothing against anyone. Its mission constantly washes clean all those with whom it comes in contact.
Certainly, this may seem beyond human, or even anti-wisdom, but this is the extraordinary picture of the divine. God drawing to Himself by love, not by twisting arms.
Can we still suffer in our sins, and even die in our darkness? Absolutely. But, that’s on us, not the Lord. God poured His infinite love over us while we were “dead in our sins”—not when we came to know Him…not when we prayed…but at the moment of HIS sacrifice not ours.
Let the truth wash over you. Allow it to wash over everyone you know. Then, and only then, will this world begin to find peace in this Christmas season.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
