“And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good.”(Genesis 1:31, ESV)
The aroma…the cup…the warmth of the mug… I am changed by them.
It’s undeniable; the drink bridges a gap between the bed and the rest of the day. Coffee—the elixir of life, my wife calls it.
This liquid and all of its life transforming nuances brings such a shift in the atmosphere of the morning…or any time of day for that matter…doesn’t it? And if it’s not coffee for you, then there is something else you add to your day to round off the rough edges.
They are gifts—these little life-giving additives. Too much, and they drown us in over-indulgence. Too little, and we feel deprived. But all in all, they are good.
God has wired into creation everything to make the day interesting…no, to make it good! You just have to eyes to see.
Certainly, there are plenty of things to see that are not good—reasons for being bummed-out. But, you have the choice to see light or darkness. Get your eyes right, and everything else will become right.
Jesus said, “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” (Matthew 6:22, ESV)
