AM Meditation — Being Smarter Than Ourselves

You’ve heard it said, “Leaders are readers.” Well…It is absolutely the truth; you can’t get around it.

More recently, I have had opportunities to increase what I hear from other great men and women of faith (online videos, books, conferences, etc.). They are not all necessarily in my tradition, nor do we necessarily agree on every theological point, but, as I’ve sat at the feet of others, I’ve been challenged in my own walk of faith to expand my understanding and transform what I do for a cause greater than my understanding.

You can’t truly receive fresh revelation if the only people you listen to simply affirm your own convictions. You have to get outside of yourself. You can’t just keep going to the same books and same conferences and hope to grow.

Consider this scripture afresh today, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than yours and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Is. 55:8-9) Hardly a deeper truth exists. We never arrive. We never fully understand. Our current understanding will always be only a sliver of reality.

So what do we do? We continue to press deeper into Christ, deeper into His Word. To love more. To humble ourselves before others. And to never stop seeking!

Have an amazing day my friends.

Hi Pastor Jim – I love to go to Goodwill and buy books. The Lord always has a wonderful book waiting for me – right now I’m reading one by Francis Frangipane – I agree that the Lord has fresh revelation for us everyday when we seek him!

Amen! I believe this helps to mentor us into becoming something greater than who we already are. This challenges me to press more into the process of multiplication.
