Wow, it’s only twenty-hours before Christmas…and we’re not quite done with all the preparations. There even may be a little bit of anxiety about making sure that everything is just right before everyone arrives for the next 2 or 3 events at our home. But, the joy of it all is making sure that everyone experiences love in our home.
If this is true of us, then how much truer of God and all He prepares for us. At the center of everything God does, is you and me. He knows us. He loves us. It’s all He does—all day and everyday.
Now, we all know that, but do we KNOW that.
Of course, I can go on and on and wax eloquently on all the ways God loves us; but suffice it to say, knowing His love only becomes real through relational discovery. Only when we interact with God do we know His love. Only when we see others, engage others, live with others, give to others, and receive from others, do we find what the love of God really means.
Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:40) Discovering the love of God is not fully found in some esoteric and supernatural experience we find in a worship service. In fact, Jesus pointed to the truth that love of God may be more found in our interaction with others than anywhere else. Without it, we would not really know love.
With only 24 hours before Christmas, I simply wanted to encourage you with this. We need people—all kinds of people, the good and the not-so good, the family we like and the family we’re not so sure of. Find them. Give to them. For in them, we discover ourselves.
